Irinka Talakhadze
Georgia (2000)Thanks to her father-artist, Irinka Talakhadze (b. 2000, lives and works in Tbilissi, Georgia) received art from a very early age. Since his death, she has continued to pursue her artistic dream as a self-taught artist. Through thorough experimentation with materials and techniques and a study of the work of Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, Egon Schiele and others, she tries to translate her inner world onto canvas as convincingly as possible. Spontaneity, dynamism, transparency and honesty are the keywords. The transformation from solidly designed women in massive uniforms to more transparent, airy figures fits perfectly into this endeavour. With her paintings, Talakhadze aims to make the viewer pause to consider the relationship between what we really see in reality and what an image leads us to believe. Or how utopia and dystopia, or happiness and tristesse, can be contained in the same image, and what this can teach us not only about the world but also about ourselves.
