Aline Gaiad

Brasil (1979)

With her colourful, domestic scenes, Aline Gaiad (b 1979, lives and works in London) creates a playful, personal universe. She draws inspiration for this mainly from her everyday environment, in which art and design have played a prominent role since childhood. From a fascination for interiors and the objects that figure in them - as a reflection of the inhabitants - she paints visually stimulating living rooms. Thanks to her firm brushstrokes, vibrant colours and materials such as acrylic, oil rods and chalk, her works exude a directness that immediately engages the viewer. Through collage techniques, she creates additional textures and shadows, and thanks to her photographically trained eye, she pays close attention to details and composition. With her intuitive paintings - which evoke references to Henri Matisse's famous living rooms - Aline Gaiad shares a piece of her imaginary world, and wants to share her vision of joy and happiness with other people.
