Florian Eymann

France (1980)

With his dark, disorienting portraits, Florian Eymann (°1980, lives and works in Orléans/France) bridges the gap between past and present, between abstraction and figuration and between art history and his own painterly universe. He considers it a challenge to translate classical themes such as portraits, still lifes or vanitas scenes in a personal way. In doing so, he nurtures a particular fondness for contrasts between light and dark, chiaroscuro and shadow. In this way, he encourages viewers to actively seek out the image. In preparation for each series, Florian Eymann creates collages on the computer with images from the internet. He deconstructs work by old masters, and re-constructs it by adding abstractions or references to contemporary visual culture. While painting, that digital sketch does not form a compelling context, but a companion. Through the to some extent controlled chaos, he gives great freedom of interpretation to the spectators.
